On May 30, 2025, Unified Patents filed an ex parte reexamination proceeding against U.S. Patent 8,181,042, owned by Polaris PowerLED Technologies, LLC, an NPE. The ‘042 patent generally relates to power management in integrated circuits.

On June 2, 2025, Unified Patents filed an ex parte reexamination proceeding against U.S. Patent 9,098,367, owned and asserted by AutoConnect Holdings LLC, an NPE. The ‘367 patent is directed to an application store on board a vehicle. It has been asserted against GM and Ford.

On May 23, 2025, Unified Patents filed an ex parte reexamination proceeding against U.S. Patent RE48,066, owned and asserted by Flexiworld Technologies, Inc., an NPE. The ‘066 patent relates to an internet-based transactional system involving data mining. It has been asserted against Indeed.

DigitalDoors cloud storage patent challenge instituted

On May 23, 2025, less than one month after Unified filed an ex parte reexamination, the Central Reexamination Unit (CRU) granted Unified’s request, finding substantial new questions of patentability on the challenged claims of U.S. Patent 9,015,301, owned and asserted by Digital Doors Inc., an NPE. The ‘301 patent relates to an information management system for processing data over a distributed computing system using filters. It is currently being asserted against 35+ financial institutions, including First Western Trust Bank, Texas Capital Bank, WestStar Bank, and others.

Mesa Digital smartphone patent challenged

On May 9, 2025, Unified Patents filed an ex parte reexamination proceeding against U.S. Patent 9,031,537, owned and asserted by Mesa Digital LLC, an NPE and entity associated with Ortiz & Lopez, PLLC (d/b/a OL PATENTS). The ‘537 patent is directed to an electronic wireless handheld multimedia device that is capable of bidirectional communication with a remote resource for electronic materials over cellular, wireless LAN and Bluetooth networks, after accepting a passcode by a user, along with a touch sensitive display screen. It has been asserted against over 75 defendants, including Amazon, Walmart, Best Buy, Apple, HTC, LG, Gen Mobile, Nuu, and BLU Products.
